US City Launches Guaranteed Income Program: $1.2 Million Distributed With No Strings Attached

Expanding at a rapid pace across the United States, programs aiding financially strapped individuals and families are gaining traction.
In California, a city is set to distribute over a million dollars through an extended guaranteed income initiative. The Long Beach Pledge Guaranteed Income Pilot. A one-year, $1.2 million program, targets families with children and multiple income earners residing below the federal poverty level in specific zip codes: 90802, 90804, 90805, 90806, or 90810. Open for sign-ups until January 24th. Selected families will receive $500 monthly for a year. Funding for this expansion comes from the city’s homelessness emergency proclamation, emphasizing the commitment to innovative solutions preventing homelessness.
Mayor Rex Richardson urges eligible residents to apply, citing the program’s success in providing crucial financial support to those in need since its 2022 launch. The Long Beach Pledge currently supports its initial cohort in the 90813 zip code, offering $500 monthly payments to 250 families with single-income earners.
