UNESCO Warns AI Disruption Could Slash Creator Earnings by Up to 24% by 2028

A new UNESCO report forecasts that generative artificial intelligence could cut revenue for creative professionals significantly by 2028. With music creators facing up to 24% income losses and audiovisual creators about 21%. As AI-generated content competes with human-made works in the global market.

The analysis highlights how increasing reliance on digital platforms and AI tools may erode traditional income streams for artists. Musicians and filmmakers as automated content proliferates.

The report also points to a shift in how creative income is earned, with digital revenues now accounting for 35% of total creator income, up from 17% in 2018, exposing artistic careers to mounting disruption and copyright challenges. UNESCO calls for stronger policy frameworks to protect creators’ rights and ensure fair compensation as AI technology expands its footprint across cultural and creative industries.
