Switzerland Leads Europe in Crypto Adoption, With Usage More Than Double Germany’s

A new BearingPoint study has found that 23% of adults in Switzerland use cryptocurrencies at least occasionally—more than double Germany’s 11% adoption rate, making Switzerland the clear leader in the DACH region.
Austria ranked in between at 18%, reflecting Switzerland’s long-standing advantage in digital asset adoption. Researchers attribute Switzerland’s lead to years of regulatory clarity, the success of Crypto Valley in Zug, and a mature ecosystem of blockchain companies, banks, investors, and developers that has attracted global crypto innovation. Meanwhile, Germany is attempting to narrow the gap by integrating cryptocurrency services into mainstream banking through institutions such as DZ Bank and DekaBank, potentially giving up to 80 million customers access to digital assets through familiar banking apps. The findings highlight how early regulatory support and a well-developed blockchain ecosystem have positioned Switzerland as Europe’s leading crypto hub, while Germany is betting on large-scale banking adoption to accelerate future growth.
