Strategy’s Cash Reserve Hits Record $4.65 Billion After 5X Growth and Bitcoin Sale

Strategy has expanded its U.S. dollar reserve to an all-time high of $4.65 billion, up from just $871 million in late May. Representing more than fivefold growth in roughly 2.5 months.
The larger cash buffer now provides approximately 2.7 years of coverage for preferred-stock dividends and debt interest. Strengthening the company’s ability to meet financial obligations without relying solely on Bitcoin or new capital raises. Strategy also sold 1,690 BTC for $108.6 million during Aug. 3–9 and used the proceeds to repurchase 1.15 million STRC preferred shares, demonstrating how Bitcoin is increasingly being used as an active component of its broader capital-management strategy rather than simply held indefinitely. Importantly, the Bitcoin sale did not fund the increase in the USD reserve; the two were separate capital-allocation actions.
The development signals an evolution in Strategy’s Bitcoin treasury model, combining large-scale BTC holdings with substantial cash reserves and selective Bitcoin monetization to manage liquidity, dividends, debt obligations, and securities repurchases more flexibly.
