South Korea Expands Bitcoin Seizure Powers With New Court Rules Set for October

South Korea’s Supreme Court has introduced draft civil enforcement rules that establish clear legal procedures for freezing, seizing. And liquidating Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies during civil lawsuits. With the new framework expected to take effect in October following a public consultation period.
Under the proposed rules, courts will be able to issue attachment orders preventing debtors from transferring digital assets, while authorized enforcement officers and licensed crypto service providers can facilitate the custody, sale, or transfer of seized assets to creditors. The amendments are designed to standardize crypto-related civil enforcement across the country. Close legal loopholes that have allowed debtors to hide assets, and improve the efficiency of debt recovery. The move marks another significant step in South Korea’s evolving digital asset regulations. Reinforcing the legal recognition of cryptocurrencies as enforceable financial assets within the country’s judicial system.
