Ripple Unveils Quantum-Ready XRP Strategy as XRPL Targets 2028 Security Upgrade

Ripple is preparing the XRP ecosystem for the quantum era with a multi-phase roadmap designed to make the XRP Ledger (XRPL) resistant to future cryptographic threats.
The plan targets full “post-quantum” readiness by 2028, reflecting growing concern that advances in quantum computing could eventually break the encryption methods currently used to secure blockchain transactions. Ripple’s strategy includes testing next-generation cryptographic algorithms and building contingency frameworks to protect user assets without disrupting network performance.
The roadmap outlines a staged transition, starting with emergency “Quantum-Day” preparedness and progressing toward hybrid systems that run both current and quantum-resistant cryptography in parallel. Ripple is also addressing long-term risks such as the “harvest now, decrypt later” threat, where attackers collect encrypted data today to exploit it in the future. While current systems remain secure for now, the initiative highlights a broader industry shift: blockchain networks are moving from theoretical discussions to active planning for quantum security—positioning XRP as one of the first major ecosystems to proactively adapt.
