Rep. French Hill Emerges as Potential Leader for Crypto-Friendly Legislation

The retirement announcement of U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-Mo.) at the close of 2024 has the potential to usher in a new era of cryptocurrency regulation.
Luetkemeyer, eyeing the chairmanship of the House Financial Services Committee, leaves the door open for Rep. French Hill (R-Ark.) to potentially take the helm. Known for leading the committee’s digital assets panel and actively engaging in crypto-related legislation, particularly regarding stablecoins, Hill aims to bring two crypto regulation bills to the floor and pass them in early 2024.
Hill’s bipartisan approach and focus on cryptocurrency have positioned him as a candidate supportive of the industry’s growth. The GOP Steering Committee will evaluate several factors, including legislative performance and fundraising capabilities, to determine replacements for Luetkemeyer and the departing chair, Patrick McHenry, in 2025. Other potential candidates for the House Financial Services chair position include Rep. Bill Huizenga (R-Mich.) and Rep. Andy Barr (R-Ky.), contingent on Republican control of the House after upcoming elections.
