Philippines Considers On-Chain National Budget to Boost Accountability

Philippine Senator Bam Aquino has proposed placing the country’s national budget on a blockchain platform to improve transparency. Allowing citizens to trace every peso spent.

While no formal bill has been filed, Aquino said such a move could make the Philippines the first nation to manage its entire budget on-chain. The plan would build on the Department of Budget and Management’s existing blockchain system. Which already publishes key financial documents like allotment orders and cash allocations using Polygon’s proof-of-stake network.

Local blockchain firm BayaniChain welcomed the idea, noting that while blockchain is not a cure-all for corruption, it ensures immutable records that strengthen accountability in government spending.
