Ohio Moves to Accept Crypto Payments for State Fees

Ohio’s State Board of Deposit unanimously approved a vendor to allow payment of state fees and services using cryptocurrency, including Bitcoin.
The move comes after months of work begun in April by Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose and Treasurer Robert Sprague to introduce crypto payment options across government services.
The plan is part of Ohio’s broader push into digital assets. In recent months, the state advanced legislation like the Ohio Blockchain Basics Act, which would prevent local governments from banning digital asset use and exempt crypto transactions under $200 from capital gains tax. LaRose has also backed a proposed Strategic Crypto Reserve funded by state investment earnings.
