New SEC Chair Appointed by Trump Could Signal Crypto-Friendly Shift

President Trump appointed Mark T. Uyeda as Acting Chairman of the SEC on January 21. Uyeda, who has served as an SEC Commissioner since 2022. Advocates for clearer crypto regulations, contrasting with his predecessor Gary Gensler’s tougher stance.

Uyeda criticized the SEC’s “policy through enforcement” approach, calling it detrimental to the industry. Many crypto supporters, including former CFTC Chairman Chris Giancarlo, have praised his appointment, expecting Uyeda to help repair the SEC and foster a more collaborative environment for digital assets.
