Nauru Establishes Crypto Authority to Shape Digital Finance Future

Nauru has established the Command Ridge Virtual Asset Authority (CRVAA) to regulate digital assets, issue licenses to virtual asset service providers (VASPs), and promote Web3 innovation.
Passed on June 17, the new law positions cryptocurrencies as commodities and excludes utility, payment, governance, and reward tokens from investment contract classification. President David Adeang praised the move as a strategy to diversify the island’s economy, strengthen financial oversight, and reduce reliance on volatile climate financing.
CRVAA will also enforce cybersecurity standards, monitor financial transactions, and ensure regulatory compliance—marking a bold step for Nauru toward digital financial leadership.
