Mastercard Chooses Polygon to Enable Verified Username Transfers for Self-Custody Wallets

Mastercard has selected Polygon to support a new feature that allows self-custody wallet users to send and receive crypto using simple, verified usernames instead of long wallet addresses.

The upgrade is part of Mastercard’s expanding “Crypto Credential” initiative aimed at improving security and ease of use in digital asset transfers. Polygon provides the underlying blockchain infrastructure, offering low-cost, high-speed settlement, while partner Mercuryo will handle identity verification and username management. The goal is to make self-custody wallets more user-friendly and accessible, allowing mainstream users to manage their digital assets with greater confidence.

This development represents another step toward merging traditional payment-grade user experience with decentralized wallet ownership, potentially accelerating broader adoption of self-custody solutions.
