Mastercard Acquires BVNK for $1.8 Billion to Accelerate Global Stablecoin Payments

Mastercard has completed its $1.8 billion acquisition of BVNK, one of the world’s leading stablecoin payment infrastructure providers, marking its largest investment in digital assets to date.
The acquisition strengthens Mastercard’s ability to offer 24/7 blockchain-based payments, enabling businesses to send and receive stablecoin payments across more than 130 countries while seamlessly converting between fiat currencies and digital assets. By integrating BVNK’s infrastructure into its global payment network, Mastercard aims to accelerate cross-border business payments, treasury management, merchant settlements, and programmable financial services, positioning stablecoins as a core component of future payment rails. The deal underscores the growing convergence of traditional finance and blockchain technology, as major payment companies increasingly view regulated stablecoins as a faster, lower-cost alternative for global money movement and institutional transactions.
