Lloyds Bank Issues Urgent Warning on Soaring Cryptocurrency Scams

Lloyds Bank, a leading retail and commercial bank in the U.K., issued an urgent warning on the escalating threat of cryptocurrency scams.

The bank highlighted a 23% increase in crypto investment scams this year, resulting in victims losing an average of £10,741 ($13,343), the highest among various consumer frauds. Lloyds emphasized the prevalence of scams originating on social media, particularly Instagram and Facebook, constituting 66% of all investment scams. The bank urged caution, pointing out that fraudsters employ elaborate tactics, including fake companies and websites, to deceive investors.

Additionally, Lloyds emphasized the broader risk, stating that fraudsters use cryptocurrency payments in other scams, such as romance or impersonation scams. Liz Ziegler, Fraud Prevention Director at Lloyds Bank, underscored the importance of investing with trusted companies and raised awareness about the high-risk nature of cryptocurrency, emphasizing the lack of regulation and the difficulty in recovering funds if something goes awry.
