Iranian Crypto Outflows Top $10.3M After U.S.–Israeli Airstrikes, On-Chain Data Shows

Cryptocurrency outflows from Iranian exchanges surged to more than $10.3 million between Feb. 28 and March 2 following U.S. and Israeli airstrikes on Iran, according to blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis.
Data shows withdrawals spiked sharply within hours of the attacks, with Iran’s largest exchange Nobitex recording unusually high transaction volumes as users moved funds to external wallets and overseas platforms.
Analysts say the sudden increase may reflect capital flight or precautionary asset transfers amid rising geopolitical risk. While the identities behind the transactions remain unclear due to blockchain pseudonymity, researchers note that crypto activity in Iran often spikes during periods of political instability as individuals and entities seek alternative ways to move or protect capital outside the traditional financial system
