Grayscale CEO Optimistic About SEC Talks on Bitcoin ETF
Grayscale Investments CEO Michael Sonnenshein expressed optimism about ongoing conversations with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) regarding the potential for a spot bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF).
In a recent interview on Yahoo Finance, Sonnenshein noted the active engagement with the SEC, interpreting their questions as a signal to engage and make progress on the issue. Although Grayscale did not disclose specific timelines, its pursuit of a spot bitcoin ETF gained momentum in August with a court win that compelled the SEC to re-review the bid. SEC Chair Gary Gensler’s critical stance on crypto raises uncertainties, but experts suggest the Grayscale court decision could influence outcomes for various firms, such as BlackRock and Fidelity, that have also filed for spot bitcoin ETFs.
Sonnenshein addressed JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon’s remarks about shutting down crypto, emphasizing diverse executive opinions while underscoring the enduring nature of the crypto asset class. He highlighted growing investor interest and the proactive evolution of business models by legacy institutions and banks, citing JPM Coin’s recent introduction of programmable payments as an example of the financial sector’s increasing involvement in crypto.
