Google Confirms Non-Custodial Wallets Safe on Play Store

Google has clarified that non-custodial crypto wallets will not be banned from the Play Store. After a July 10, 2025 policy update sparked backlash.
The original wording appeared to require all crypto wallets in 15 jurisdictions, including the U.S., UK, and EU, to hold government licenses. Effectively excluding non-custodial wallets. Which let users store their own private keys and are not considered money services businesses. Following criticism from legal and privacy advocates. Google admitted the rule was an oversight, confirmed non-custodial wallets are “not in scope” of its policy, and pledged to update its guidelines to make the distinction clear.
