Germany’s AfD Urges EU to Exempt Bitcoin from MiCA Regulations

Germany’s Alternative for Germany (AfD) party is campaigning for the cryptocurrency Bitcoin. To be excluded from the scope of the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation.
The party argues that Bitcoin is fundamentally different from other digital assets. Citing its decentralised nature, wide adoption, and store-of-value characteristics. And should not be regulated under the same framework as utility tokens or issuer-backed assets.
By advocating for a carve-out, the AfD aims to preserve Bitcoin’s open market access and avoid what it sees as unnecessary regulation that could hinder innovation or drive market activity abroad. The stance highlights differing European approaches to crypto policy and adds to the broader debate on how to balance regulation with the unique qualities of major cryptocurrencies.
