G20 Backs Clear Crypto Regulation to Support Global Digital Asset Growth

G20 finance ministers and central bank governors are calling for clearer regulatory pathways for digital assets. Recognizing that crypto and digital financial innovation can contribute to economic growth and private-sector development.
At their Aug. 31–Sept. 1 meeting, officials committed to regulatory frameworks that encourage innovation while protecting financial stability and maintaining trust in global monetary and payment systems. The G20 is also increasing its focus on stablecoins, cross-border payments and crypto compliance. The Financial Stability Board is expected to examine cross-border risks from global stablecoins, while the G20 urged stronger implementation of FATF anti-money-laundering standards in jurisdictions with significant crypto activity. The direction signals a shift toward integrating digital assets into mainstream financial policy through clearer, internationally coordinated rules, rather than focusing primarily on restricting the sector.
