Former Bank of America Employee Pleads Guilty in Massive Medicare Fraud and Money Laundering Scheme

A former relationship manager at Bank of America has admitted to helping a transnational criminal organization launder millions of dollars derived. From fraudulent Medicare claims.

Prosecutors say the employee used his position to open accounts for shell medical equipment companies, bypassing internal controls and depositing fraudulently obtained checks. Enabling the group’s broader health care fraud operation that involved more than $10 billion in false claims and exploited the identities of over one million Americans.

Federal authorities say the illicit funds more than $8 million were moved into offshore accounts and cryptocurrency wallets as part of the laundering process. And the defendant has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit money laundering. He now faces up to 20 years in prison when sentenced later this year. Underscoring the Justice Department’s focus on combating financial crimes that exploit both government programs and the banking system.
