Dust Transfers Spike After Million-Dollar Gift To Satoshi Nakamoto’s Wallet

In a puzzling transaction on January 5, 2024, an unidentified bitcoin wallet transferred 26.917 bitcoin, valued at $1.19 million, to Satoshi Nakamoto’s original “1A1zP” Genesis address.
Since then, there has been a notable uptick in activity, with 34 dust transfers—small fractions of bitcoin—sent to the same address within the past 24 hours. While the reason behind sending bitcoins to Nakamoto’s unspendable address remains a mystery, the Genesis wallet, which originally held 50 BTC mined by Nakamoto in 2009, has accumulated a total of 6,618 transactions.
Apart from the recent significant transaction, the address has received 22.765 BTC, surpassing a million dollars in value at current market rates. The continuous influx of dust transfers, often accompanied by messages, suggests diverse motivations ranging from homage to attempts at communication or seeking assistance. Notably, the Genesis wallet’s balance is now at 99.684 BTC, inching closer to the 100 BTC milestone following the substantial contribution and subsequent smaller deposits.
