DeFi Revival: Glassnode Pinpoints Two Prominent Ethereum Altcoins as Trailblazers
Two Ethereum ecosystem coins are spearheading a fresh resurgence in decentralized finance (DeFi), as indicated by blockchain analytics firm Glassnode.
In their recent report, Glassnode reveals that its DeFi index. Comprising the eight largest DeFi tokens by market capitalization, has outperformed Ethereum in the past two months, marking the first such occurrence since September 2022. Within this index, two tokens stand out as the primary drivers of this trend: Maker (MKR). The stablecoin governance token, and Compound (COMP). The native currency of the smart contract DeFi protocol.This notable performance of the two altcoins is potentially tied to recent fundamental developments within the respective crypto projects. For instance, Compound’s founder and CEO, Robert Leshner. Announced his departure from the lending protocol and unveiled a new project centered on bringing regulated finance to blockchain networks.
This announcement led to an impressive 83% surge in COMP token value within a week.Similarly, MakerDAO activated its Smart Burn Engine. A buyback program that employs excess DAI owned by the protocol to acquire MKR from a Uniswap pool. The anticipation of removing approximately $7 million worth of MKR within a month resulted in a notable 43% price increase for the token over the week. Additionally, Messari’s analysis highlights a revival in decentralized exchanges (DEXes). Showcasing a surge in market share compared to centralized counterparts. This renewed interest is underscored by the relative share of volume traded on DEXs. Which has surged from 3.75% at the beginning of June to 29.2% at present. Approaching the highs observed during the latter half of 2022.
