Crypto Fortunes Surge as CZ and Nakamoto Lead $50 Billion Growth
In 2023, the flourishing crypto market significantly boosted the fortunes of key figures, with Binance’s former chief, Changpeng Zhao (CZ), experiencing an impressive surge of approximately $25 billion in his estimated wealth.
This surpasses the penalties incurred by Binance from various U.S. federal bodies. CZ’s holdings now exceed $37 billion, primarily tied to his stake in Binance. Meanwhile, Digital Currency Group’s Barry Silbert saw a $1.5 billion increase, and Gemini’s Winklevoss twins witnessed a $1.4 billion rise. Coinbase’s Brian Armstrong and co-founder Fred Ehrsam saw their fortunes expand by $5.8 billion and $1.8 billion, respectively.
Notably, the most significant beneficiary was the elusive Satoshi Nakamoto, Bitcoin’s founder, whose net worth soared by $26.05 billion in 2023, reaching a staggering $42.59 billion. Despite this immense wealth, Nakamoto’s Bitcoin holdings, estimated at 1 million bitcoins, remain untouched, adding to the enduring mystery surrounding the identity of Bitcoin’s creator.
