Commerzbank Secures First Crypto Custody License, Paving the Way for Digital Asset Services

Breaking new ground, Commerzbank has secured the first Crypto Custody License among German full-service banks, solidifying its position at the forefront of the country’s expanding crypto market.
This significant milestone, granted under the German Banking Act, empowers Commerzbank to manage and securely store crypto assets, marking a pivotal move towards offering a comprehensive range of digital asset services. With total assets reaching €534 billion by September 2022 and a vast clientele of 26,000 corporate groups and nearly 11 million individuals and small businesses, Commerzbank aims to meet the growing demand for secure and compliant crypto asset management solutions.
The bank’s immediate focus is to establish a secure platform adhering to regulatory standards for institutional clients, emphasizing its commitment to integrating digital innovation into its services. Dr Jörg Oliveri del Castillo-Schulz, the bank’s COO, views this achievement as a crucial step, stating, “This highlights our ongoing commitment to applying the latest technologies and innovations, forming the foundation for supporting our customers in the areas of digital assets.”
