CoinShares Says Quantum Computing Isn’t an Immediate Threat to Bitcoin Security

Digital asset manager CoinShares says that concerns over quantum computing breaking Bitcoin’s cryptography are overblown and manageable, not an imminent crisis.

According to the firm’s analysis, current quantum technology remains far from capable of undermining Bitcoin’s security, giving developers and the ecosystem years — or even decades — to adapt and build quantum-resistant solutions before any real threat materializes.

CoinShares also notes that only a small portion of Bitcoin — particularly coins in legacy address formats where public keys are visible — would be theoretically vulnerable, and even then it would take substantial breakthroughs in quantum hardware to pose a risk. The firm frames quantum computing as a long-term engineering challenge rather than a present danger, reinforcing confidence in Bitcoin’s long-term cryptographic resilience as adoption grows.
