Coinbase Signals Upcoming Wrapped Bitcoin Competitor on Base Platform
Coinbase, a leading U.S. cryptocurrency exchange, is hinting at the launch of its own wrapped bitcoin alternative, cbbtc.
The company announced on X that the currency is “coming soon.” Jesse Pollak, the creator of Coinbase’s Base platform, also revealed plans to build a massive bitcoin economy on Base, suggesting that this token will be released there.
This news follows recent controversy over changes in the custody of WBTC. The most popular wrapped bitcoin, involving Tron founder Justin Sun.
