Coinbase Seeks SEC Green Light for Tokenized Stock Trading in the U.S.

Coinbase is seeking SEC approval to launch tokenized stock trading in the U.S., aiming to offer digital tokens that represent publicly traded shares.
Chief Legal Officer Paul Grewal called the initiative a top priority and stressed the need for regulatory clarity, specifically a “no-action letter” that would allow Coinbase to operate without fear of enforcement. If approved, the move could position Coinbase as a leader in tokenized assets, expanding its reach beyond crypto and into traditional equity markets.
While firms like Kraken explore tokenized equities abroad, Coinbase’s entry could reshape U.S. trading and challenge platforms like Robinhood and Schwab.
