Coinbase Awards WNBA Players in Bitcoin as League Partnership Expands

Coinbase, the cryptocurrency exchange, demonstrated its ongoing commitment to the WNBA by awarding WNBA players a total of $120,000 worth of Bitcoin during the Commissioner’s Cup Championship.
Each player from both teams, the New York Liberty and Las Vegas Aces, received $5,000 in Bitcoin, with the funds deposited directly into their personal Coinbase accounts. In addition to this financial incentive, WNBA players also have access to educational crypto content provided by Coinbase.
The exchange expanded its partnership with the WNBA in 2022, building on its role as the league’s first cryptocurrency sponsor since September 2021. In addition to providing financial support, Coinbase actively engages in crypto education and assists players in setting up personal crypto accounts. The partnership also involves the presentation of the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup Championship, which features charitable contributions.
The event livestreamed on Amazon Prime Video, and Coinbase provided fans in attendance with commemorative NFT collectibles. The exchange’s WNBA partnership extends to sponsoring the Liberty and the Seattle Storm, as well as having individual endorsements with star players Sue Bird and Jewell Loyd.
