Coinbase and Cloudflare Launch x402 Foundation to Push AI Payments Standard
Coinbase and Cloudflare have announced a joint initiative to launch the x402 Foundation. An organization aimed at advancing a new standard for AI-enabled payments.
The x402 protocol is designed to allow AI agents to complete transactions autonomously. Enabling programmable and secure transfers across fiat, stablecoins, and crypto.
The foundation will build on Google’s Agent Payments Protocol (AP2), integrating x402 as a system component that enables crypto rails within AI agent payments. By combining the infrastructure strengths of Coinbase and Cloudflare, the foundation hopes to expand adoption of autonomous payments and accelerate the convergence of AI, payments, and web3 technology.
