Bybit Expands European Operations After Securing Austrian EMI License

Bybit has strengthened its regulatory presence in Europe after Bybit Payments GmbH received an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license from Austria’s Financial Market Authority (FMA).

The new authorization enables the exchange to offer regulated electronic money and payment services across the European Economic Area through Bybit.eu, complementing the platform’s existing MiCA authorization for crypto-asset services. Under the new structure, payment services and crypto services will operate through separate regulated entities, allowing Bybit to expand into traditional financial offerings while maintaining compliance with European regulations.

The EMI license also paves the way for future features including peer-to-peer payments, open banking integration, merchant payment solutions, card programs, and stronger customer authentication, while helping Bybit establish direct partnerships with European banks and payment providers. The move reflects Bybit’s broader strategy to bridge traditional finance and digital assets, reinforcing Europe as a key market for regulated crypto innovation under the MiCA framework.
