Brazil to Implement VASP Rules by 2026

The Central Bank of Brazil announced it will begin applying regulation for virtual asset service providers (VASPs) in 2026.
Although a crypto law was passed in 2022 requiring VASP approval, enforcement was delayed under a moratorium. Officials say the upcoming framework will balance freedom with safeguards, avoiding overly aggressive measures while ensuring operational safety.
Nagel Paulino from the bank’s Financial System Regulation Department emphasized pressure from prosecutors, police, and regulators to finalize the rules. He noted the importance of aligning with global standards to prevent market migration, adding that Brazil aims to set a regional benchmark for crypto oversight in Latin America through international coordination.
