Brave Introduces Self-Sufficient Image and Video Search, No Longer Dependent on Google or Bing

Brave, the privacy-focused internet browser company, has announced the launch of its custom image and video search feature, breaking away from reliance on Google and Microsoft’s Bing.
With this new feature, search results will solely come from Brave’s own index. Eliminating the need for users to choose between Bing or Google while using the crypto-friendly web browser. Brave’s Chief of Search, Josep Pujol, revealed that they aimed to be completely independent from Big Tech. And they successfully reduced third-party queries from 13% to 7% within a year after launching Brave Search. The decision to develop their own image and video search option was driven by concerns over Bing’s omission of critical images. Leading Brave to remove Bing’s API from its search engine.
In the future, Brave plans to release its Search API to offer its services to other developers and companies, aiming to compete with Big Tech on search quality. Despite challenges like certain queries affected by the removal of Bing API calls, Brave will rely on user feedback to enhance their search experience and continue supporting online privacy.
