Bitcoin Mining Profits Squeezed as AI Shift Accelerates Across Industry

Bitcoin mining margins are tightening significantly as rising costs and increased network competition push profitability toward breakeven levels.

According to CoinShares, the average cost to mine one Bitcoin has climbed close to $80,000, while declining “hashprice” and high hashrate continue to pressure revenues. In response, many mining companies are rapidly pivoting toward artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing as alternative revenue streams. With over $70 billion in AI-related contracts already announced, some firms could generate up to 70% of their revenue from AI by 2026—highlighting a major structural shift from traditional crypto mining to data infrastructure.
