Bitcoin Miner Files Federal Lawsuit to Halt Texas Town Vote Targeting Its Operations
Mining giant MARA Holdings has filed a federal lawsuit to stop a November 4 vote in Hood County, Texas, which would incorporate the nearby community of Mitchell Bend into a new municipality.
The company alleges that county officials deliberately placed the measure on the ballot to encircle its Granbury mining site and gain regulatory power to impose taxes or zoning laws that could threaten its operations.
The dispute stems from long-standing complaints by residents about the facility’s noise and environmental impact. While MARA claims it has already invested in sound-mitigation measures, locals say the disturbance continues. By incorporating, the community would regain control over noise and land-use rules. But MARA argues that the incorporation effort lacks legal legitimacy and is structured specifically to disadvantage its business.
