Bitcoin Investor Recovers $4.4 Million Fortune 12 Years After Exchange Collapse

A British Bitcoin investor identified as “Chris” has recovered 61 BTC worth around $4.4 million (£3.3 million). More than a decade after losing access when early U.K. crypto exchange Intersango collapsed in 2014.
Chris originally bought the Bitcoin in 2011 but left it under the exchange’s custody rather than moving it to a personal wallet. After years of assuming the funds were lost, he eventually sought legal assistance to recover the assets.
Lawyers from CEL Solicitors spent about four months providing documentation to U.S. courts, ultimately recovering the Bitcoin through negotiations without requiring a lengthy trial. The extraordinary recovery transformed what was once a relatively small investment into a multimillion-dollar fortune. The case also highlights a lasting lesson for crypto investors: Bitcoin’s value may survive for decades. But access ultimately depends on secure custody and control of the assets.
