Bhutan Launches Blockchain-Powered Digital Nomad Visa Using Gold-Backed Solana Token

The Kingdom of Bhutan has introduced a new blockchain-powered digital nomad visa program that requires applicants to deposit TER tokens, a gold-backed digital asset on the Solana blockchain, as part of the visa process.
To qualify, remote workers must pay a visa fee and place a refundable deposit of TER tokens (each backed by physical gold) with the country’s digital banking institution, enhancing transparency and tying the residency permit to real-world-asset-based crypto.
This initiative makes Bhutan one of the first countries to integrate crypto and sovereign visa policy, aiming to attract global talent while leveraging blockchain infrastructure for faster, secure processing. The visa allows holders to live and work in Bhutan for up to multiple years under a program designed to blend digital finance with national tourism and investment strategy.
