2026 Target: Cross-Border Digital Ruble Payments on the Horizon
The Russian digital ruble will not support international settlements until 2026, according to Anatoly Aksakov, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on the Financial Market.
In 2025, authorities will expand the current pilot phase to implement the digital ruble for domestic transactions. Following this, they plan to test its functionality for cross-border payments. Aksakov anticipates a gradual rollout in 2026 to integrate the digital ruble into the economy.
This development aligns with President Putin’s push for broader digital asset implementation. Despite delays in cryptocurrency regulation expected to be resolved by August.
